"Healthy and Safe Summer" ... Gwangjin-gu Implements Comprehensive Summer Measures

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has prepared the "2024 Summer Season Sectoral Measures" to ensure that residents can spend a healthy and safe summer, and has begun full-scale implementation from the 15th of this month.

The district has set the period for implementing the summer season sectoral measures until October 15, aiming to perfectly protect residents from various disasters and safety accidents such as typhoons, floods, and heatwaves.

This comprehensive plan focuses on five key areas: flood control, heatwave response, safety, health, and resolution of daily inconveniences.

First, Gwangjin-gu operates the Flood and Typhoon Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters. The district mayor serves as the head of the headquarters, which consists of a total of 13 task forces, and conducts step-by-step emergency duties according to weather warnings. The headquarters will operate 24 hours a day to promptly respond to various incidents, accidents, and urgent civil complaints.

Additionally, heatwave countermeasures are being promoted to safely endure the hot weather. A total of 218 shade shelters, including smart shade shelters and parasol-type shade shelters, are operated. This year, the district plans to expand heatwave mitigation facilities by newly installing two "Gwangjin Water Stations" and six "Smart Rest Shelters."

Moreover, activities to protect vulnerable groups from the heat will be strengthened, and a close cooperation system with related organizations will be established to respond to the energy crisis, implementing systematic heatwave countermeasures.

In the safety sector, the focus is on inspecting disaster-vulnerable facilities and managing safety at multi-use facilities to prepare for various summer accidents. Thorough safety inspections will be conducted on 54 sites, including construction sites, road and traffic facilities, as well as cultural and sports facilities such as performance halls.

Meanwhile, the district will also focus on infectious disease response and food poisoning prevention. In particular, a rapid response team for new infectious diseases will be operated to strengthen the surveillance system, and disinfection activities at multi-use facilities will be expanded to prevent seasonal diseases. Furthermore, guidance and inspection activities will be carried out at facilities prone to food poisoning, such as group meal service centers and food service establishments, to protect residents' health from summer food poisoning.

Finally, Gwangjin-gu has also prepared measures to resolve residents' daily inconveniences during the summer. A comprehensive summer cleaning plan has been established, and patrols by contracted company task forces will be strengthened to maintain clean and pleasant alleyways.

In particular, starting this year, a six-day-a-week collection system will be operated, which is expected to make managing illegal dumping areas during the summer more effective.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We have prepared comprehensive measures to prevent various disasters and accidents during the summer and to promote the stability of residents' lives," adding, "We will do our best to implement sectoral measures thoroughly so that all residents can spend a healthy and safe summer."
