Seoul Subway Line 7 Operating Cars Without Seats...Baekho Seoul Transportation Corporation President Inspects

Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, boarded the 'seatless car' currently being piloted on Subway Line 7 since the 16th to alleviate congestion and conducted an on-site inspection on the 24th.

Since the morning commute on the 16th, the Metro has started a pilot operation of one seatless car in one train set on Line 7. Reflecting feedback from passengers using the 'seatless car' that the space without seats felt somewhat empty, a distinctive design was applied inside the train.

During the on-site inspection, President Baekho boarded the 'seatless car' from Gunja Station to Cheongdam Station on Line 7 to assess the congestion improvement effect and checked safety equipment such as additional support bars, backrests, and handrails installed to ensure passenger safety.

The 'seatless cars' piloted on Lines 4 and 7 have removed the standard 7-seat benches, but priority seats for the mobility-impaired remain unchanged. Additionally, safety equipment such as support bars and handrails has been significantly reinforced for passenger safety and convenience.

Baekho, President of Seoul Metro, stated, “The seatless car is a short-term measure designed to alleviate congestion on Lines 4 and 7. We will verify the effectiveness of congestion improvement through monitoring during the pilot operation period and carefully inspect safety equipment to ensure passengers can use the service more safely.”
