Direct Briefing on Semiconductor Industry Status in Yongin City
"Mutual Cooperation Between Cities for Advanced Industry Development in Both Countries"
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that Mayor Lee Sang-il held a meeting on the afternoon of the 23rd with a delegation from Osceola County, Florida, USA, who visited the city hall, to discuss cooperation plans for advanced future industries such as semiconductors.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Lee and city officials, along with about 10 members of the Osceola County delegation, including Chairperson Cheryl Grieve, Hunter Kim, Director of the Economic Development Agency, and Jessica Kim, Vice President of NeoCityLink.

It is said that this meeting was arranged at the request of the Osceola County delegation. Osceola County is the 6th largest among Florida's 67 counties, with a population of 430,000 and an area of 3,901 km². Recently, as it has been strengthening its semiconductor industry capabilities by attracting semiconductor manufacturing companies such as Skywater Technology and semiconductor-focused venture capital PlugandPlay Semiconductor, it visited Yongin City, which is rapidly emerging as a global semiconductor city by consecutively attracting production lines from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, to explore mutual cooperation plans.
Osceola County is particularly promoting the development of 'Neocity,' the first local government-planned new town in the U.S. 'Neocity' focuses its capabilities on the advancement of next-generation technologies such as semiconductors, smart sensors, optics, and nanotechnology through collaboration with research institutions and companies, including Seoul National University’s Global Research and Development (R&D) Center and the public-private semiconductor nonprofit research institute BRIDG. Within a 2.02 million square meter site, a public science high school has been established to nurture talent specialized in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
During the meeting, Mayor Lee also directly briefed on the city’s semiconductor industry status centered on the 'L-shaped semiconductor belt.' He introduced, "About 150 material, parts, equipment, and design companies are expected to enter Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor industrial complex," and added, "According to media reports, there are currently 399 companies that have settled in or wish to settle in Yongin." He also provided detailed explanations about SK Hynix’s Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and Samsung Electronics’ Giheung Campus status and future plans.
Chairperson Grieve said, "Osceola County is strengthening investment in advanced information technology (IT) industries such as semiconductors centered on Neocity, and it would be great to lead the development of the semiconductor industry in both countries through close cooperation with Yongin City," adding, "Let us actively cooperate for this purpose going forward."
