Muan-gun Launches Rural Labor Assistance Project to Support Farming Households

Ongoing Volunteer Recruitment: Supporting Rural Farm Work and Promoting Local Farm Development

Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) is actively promoting a rural labor support project to assist farmers during the onion and garlic harvest season.

According to the county on the 24th, starting with Governor Kim San and Muan County Office staff sweating it out harvesting onions at a farm in Muan-eup on the 23rd, all departments of the county office, the Agricultural Technology Center, and eup/myeon offices will participate in rural labor support until the 15th of next month.

In addition, the county plans to strengthen cooperation with related organizations and social groups and continuously recruit volunteers to support small-scale farms such as those of elderly living alone, and farms affected by disabilities, illnesses, or injuries.

Last year, about 1,000 volunteers from institutions, organizations, and individuals helped with labor over an area of 35 hectares. Every year, county office staff, Jeollanam-do officials, military personnel, police, public officials from other cities and provinces, organizations, and university students participate in labor support activities to experience the difficulties faced by farmers.

Governor Kim San said, “We plan to actively promote labor support for farms in need to solve the shortage of rural labor during the onion and garlic harvest season,” and added, “We hope for much interest and active participation in labor support through volunteering.”

Meanwhile, universities, institutions, and social organizations wishing to participate in volunteer activities can apply to the Agricultural Technology Center’s Food and Horticulture Division or each eup/myeon office.
