Seongnam City to Conduct 'Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill' on 23rd for Landslide and Flood Response

Seongnam City to Conduct 'Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill' on 23rd for Landslide and Flood Response Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin is talking with officials while participating in the Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill on the 23rd.

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province conducted the "2024 Seongnam City Disaster Response Safety Korea Drill" on the 23rd, simulating landslides, Tancheon River flooding, and lowland inundation caused by localized heavy rain.

The drill was based on flood and wind damage cases that occurred in Seongnam City in 2022, assuming extreme disaster situations that could realistically occur. Over 250 personnel from 16 organizations, including Seongnam City and Seongnam Fire Station, and 60 pieces of equipment were mobilized.

Seongnam City focused the training on improving disaster response capabilities, including evacuating vulnerable disaster victims with mobility difficulties in lowland flood areas, rapid initial response in large-scale landslide situations, and the operation of the Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and the Integrated Disaster Site Support Headquarters.

In particular, a life-saving demonstration drill was conducted simultaneously, covering emergency treatment, patient triage, and rapid transport systems due to the flooding of the Tancheon River.

During this drill, Seongnam City matched disaster victims with mobility difficulties, such as persons with disabilities and elderly living alone residing in flood-prone lowland areas, one-on-one with public officials to check whether the rapid evacuation system operates effectively on site during emergencies like flooding.

Shin Sang-jin, Mayor of Seongnam City, stated, "This drill served as an opportunity to enhance disaster response capabilities within the region and strengthen organic cooperation systems with related organizations," adding, "We will do our best to minimize damage to citizens' lives and property caused by flood and wind disasters such as typhoons and heavy rain in the upcoming summer through thorough disaster preparedness."
