Since 2003, Shinan-gun has made continuous efforts for 18 years to globalize the Shinan Tidal Flat and have it registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. During this period, 85% of the vast area has been designated as a protected zone, and the tidal flat has been preserved despite various regulations.
The Shinan Tidal Flat uniquely features "sand-gravel linear formations, 40-meter-deep peat sediment layers, biodiversity," and other characteristics reported only here worldwide, earning the honorable status of a World Natural Heritage site as an ecosystem requiring international protection.
Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, "'Shinan Tidal Flat' is our treasure and proud heritage, and the efforts to protect it through overcoming numerous crises were possible thanks to the support and cooperation of the residents," adding, "We will continue to do our best to protect and manage the Shinan Tidal Flat."
The Shinan Tidal Flat is expected to maintain its shining position, beloved by both the public and the world.
