The Department of Clinical Laboratory Science at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology (President Kim Youngdo), led by Department Head Kim Jongwan, participated in the '67th Annual Conference of the Korean Society of Constitutional Anthropology' held at Oak Valley Resort in Wonju, Gangwon Province from the 16th to the 17th. At the event, second-year student Park Jiwoo received the Outstanding Presentation Award for her research paper.
Jiwoo Park, a second-year student in the Department of Clinical Pathology at Dong-Eui University of Science.
The Korean Society of Constitutional Anthropology, established in 1958, has become known as a prestigious academic conference in the field of anatomy over its more than 60-year history.
At this year’s conference, graduate students from medical schools nationwide presented papers in research fields contributing to human health, such as constitutional anthropology, clinical anatomy, and developmental biology, and shared the latest research achievements. Park Jiwoo’s award is particularly meaningful as she was the only undergraduate participant.
Under the guidance of Professor Kim Hyeran from the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science, Park Jiwoo presented two papers titled “The value of Collagen 24A1 as a prognostic biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma” and “SAC3D1 as a potential prognostic biomarker in hepatocellular carcinoma: a comprehensive data analysis.” The excellence of her research was recognized, and she was selected as the recipient of the Outstanding Presentation Award.
Park Jiwoo, who had been preparing for the conference since last March, shared her thoughts: “Through this research, I had the opportunity to personally experience big data analysis for discovering prognostic biomarkers in hepatocellular carcinoma, as well as writing abstracts and creating posters. It was a valuable time for personal growth and for communicating and collaborating with fellow club members who conducted the research together.”
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Science at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology operates academic clubs specializing in histology, microbiology, physiology, clinical chemistry, and hematology. Through major education, research activities, and industry-academia cooperation, the department strives to broaden the perspectives of its students.
