On the 23rd, the 1st Meeting of the 'Essential Medical Care and Fair Compensation Expert Committee' Held

The 'Essential Medical Care and Fair Compensation Expert Committee' under the Special Committee on Medical Reform discussed specific review plans for priority reform tasks on the 23rd.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare held the first meeting of the Essential Medical Care and Fair Compensation Expert Committee under the special committee on the 23rd, exchanging opinions on criteria for selecting priorities to establish plans for improving essential medical care fees and coverage. They also discussed measures to significantly raise fees in undervalued areas based on the results of medical cost analysis surveys.

In addition, they discussed reform plans for a 'function-centered compensation system' to replace the current 'fee-for-service' system, where more medical acts lead to higher revenue, aiming to have medical institutions of different types provide appropriate care. They also decided to specify compensation reform plans to operate tertiary general hospitals centered on specialists.

Furthermore, alongside compensation for severe and essential medical care, they agreed to prepare reform plans for more fundamental payment system reforms, improvements in indemnity insurance, and management measures for non-reimbursable services.

The special committee will conclude the first meetings of its four expert committees after the Medical Workforce Expert Committee meeting scheduled for the 24th. Each expert committee plans to hold meetings biweekly to promptly specify reform tasks by sector.

No Yeonhong, chair of the Medical Reform Special Committee, stated, "We will announce the priority reform tasks reviewed by the expert committees as soon as possible and push forward reforms with a sense of urgency."
