The Incheon Maritime Museum, the first national maritime cultural facility in the Seoul metropolitan area, will open in the second half of this year.

Incheon City announced on the 23rd that the National Incheon Maritime Museum, being constructed by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, will complete its construction this month and is scheduled to open between November and December after artifact placement and pilot operation.

The museum was built on a 26,500㎡ site of the Wolmido lock reclamation area in Bukseong-dong, Jung-gu, provided by the city to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. It is a four-story building above ground with a total floor area of 17,300㎡.

Under the theme "Sea of Exchange, Beginning of Connection," the museum is designed as a space introducing the history of Incheon’s port and the importance of exchange through the sea. Inside, there are four permanent exhibition halls?Maritime Exchange Hall, Shipping and Port Hall, Maritime Culture Hall, and Children's Museum?as well as one special exhibition hall.

The Maritime Exchange Hall is centered on the history of the Incheon Port lock and the story of the open port, while the Shipping and Port Hall will introduce 24 hours of Incheon Port through a time-lapse video.

The Maritime Culture Hall plans to exhibit the early 1900s Incheon Juan salt fields, considered the origin of domestic solar salt, and the lives of port workers. The museum intends to offer various interactive programs that allow visitors to participate beyond simple artifact displays.

An official from Incheon City said, "The National Incheon Maritime Museum, promoted as a representative maritime cultural infrastructure in the metropolitan area, is about to open after a long preparation process. We will provide maximum support to establish it as a leading maritime cultural attraction in the metropolitan area."
