Hwang Woo-yeo Urges Democratic Party to "Realize Roh Moo-hyun's Dream in Politics"… Emphasizes Dialogue and Compromise

Hwang Woo-yeo Attends 15th Memorial Ceremony for Former President Roh Moo-hyun
Emphasizes 'Culture of Dialogue and Compromise to Solve Issues' to the Opposition

Hwang Woo-yeo, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the 23rd, "I hope the new leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea can work with us to realize the politics that former President Roh Moo-hyun dreamed of." This was interpreted as a call for politics through dialogue and compromise to the Democratic Party, which is about to forcibly pass the special prosecutor law related to Chae Sang-byeong, emphasizing the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun ahead of the 15th anniversary memorial service for the late former President Roh Moo-hyun.

Chairman Hwang said at the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the Yeouido party office that morning, "I worked with former President Roh in legislative activities and served on the standing committee together, so I have many memories," adding, "Former President Roh emphasized the spirit of unity and coexistence and always strongly advocated for politics of compromise." Chairman Hwang attended the memorial service for former President Roh that day.

Chairman Hwang also referred to former President Roh’s inaugural speech, saying, "(Former President Roh) said that a political culture prioritizing national interest and the welfare of the people over party interests, and solving problems through dialogue and compromise rather than confrontation and conflict, must be established," emphasizing, "This is a good political guideline not only for the Democratic Party but for all of us." He continued, "Former President Moon Jae-in is also attending, so I plan to meet him. Since we have experience working together in legislative activities and many memories, I hope to share good conversations and have a good time."

During the meeting, criticism was raised against the Democratic Party’s announcement to forcibly pass the special prosecutor law. The High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Agency (Gongsoocheo), which is investigating the Chae Sang-byeong case, was established due to the Democratic Party’s forceful action, and the Democratic Party is also pushing for the forcible passage of the Chae Sang-byeong special prosecutor law, causing confusion in state affairs. Floor leader Choo Kyung-ho pointed out, "The core is to accurately uncover the truth of the Chae Sang-byeong case," and urged, "I hope they stop impeachment claims that stir up state confusion and shake the government."

Meanwhile, condolences were expressed regarding the incident in which two people were casualties due to a grenade explosion during training at the Army 32nd Division Recruit Training Center the previous day. Chairman Hwang expressed sorrow, saying, "The news of this unfortunate accident saddened all of us, whether as children with parents or parents with children." He added, "I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and everyone affected," and said, "If possible, I plan to visit them soon. I also sincerely pray for the speedy recovery of the injured non-commissioned officer."

He also ordered a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and the establishment of preventive measures in the military. Chairman Hwang demanded, "There must be no negligence whatsoever in safety during the faithful fulfillment of national defense duties," and said, "The circumstances and causes of the accident must be accurately investigated to prevent such accidents from happening again, so that South Korea can be a country where parents can safely send their children to the military." He further emphasized, "At the same time, I strongly urge the military leadership to be more vigilant and prepare thoroughly and meticulously."
