On Trial for Assaulting an Acquaintance Woman
Sports trainer Hwang Cheol-soon (40), who gained fame as "Jingman" on tvN's comedy show "Comedy Big League (Kobik)" aired from 2011 to 2016, was recently revealed to have been prosecuted for assaulting an acquaintance woman.
On the 23rd, Yonhap News reported that Hwang was indicted in February on charges of assault, injury by assault, and property damage, and is currently on trial under Judge Park So-jung of the Criminal Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Court. Previously, on October 16 last year, Hwang allegedly got into an argument with the victim, Ms. A, in an outdoor parking lot of a building in Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, and struck Ms. A's face and head more than 20 times with his fists, also repeatedly kicking her face.
Afterwards, Hwang grabbed Ms. A by the hair, dragged her to a vehicle, seated her in the passenger seat, and continued the assault. He also threw Ms. A's cellphone onto the ground, breaking it, and punched the driver's door. Due to the assault, Ms. A was diagnosed with injuries requiring three weeks of treatment, suffering serious harm. Additionally, it was investigated that on August 1 of the same year, Hwang assaulted Ms. A at his residence by hitting her head 2 to 3 times and pulling her hair.
Meanwhile, Hwang, who holds the title of the most awarded active fitness athlete, became known through shows like "Kobik" and "Diet War 6." However, in February 2015, he was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year probation for assaulting acquaintances in front of a snack bar in Gangnam, Seoul. On November 30, 2021, he was also accused of assaulting two men in their 20s and damaging property by taking and throwing their cellphone on the ground, for which he posted an apology on his social media. Later, the victims submitted statements of no desire for punishment regarding the assault charges, and Hwang was prosecuted only for property damage, receiving a fine of 5 million won.
In March last year, a video of Hwang assaulting his wife circulated on social media, causing controversy. At that time, Hwang's wife explained it was "an action to find the person who was sowing discord between my brother and me." However, six months later, she revealed that she was in the process of filing for divorce from Hwang.
