Focused support for installing entrance insect screens with safety locks and repairing aged window insect screens by June 21... Visiting home repair service for vulnerable housing groups, up to 3 times annually within 180,000 KRW
First introduced in 2018, provided 3,910 services to 2,375 households by last year, 164 services for 115 households this year
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that from May 20 to June 21, the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ will focus on installing and repairing insect screens to help vulnerable households in the area enjoy a comfortable and cool summer.
As part of its community-oriented projects, Seongdong-gu operates the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit,’ a visiting home repair service targeting vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty households, people with disabilities, national veterans, and emergency support recipients.
The ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ provides small-scale home repair services up to three times a year per household, including insect screen installation and repair, fluorescent light replacement, and gas timer installation, with material costs not exceeding 180,000 KRW per visit.
Among these services, installing entrance insect screens equipped with safety locks and repairing aged window insect screens are especially popular among residents as they help prevent various pests and improve ventilation during the summer.
Mr. Park, residing in Majang-dong, said, "Since installing the safety lock on the entrance insect screen, I can leave the door open with peace of mind. Living alone, it was difficult to repair the insect screen by myself, so the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ service was a great help."
Residents in need of home repair services can apply at their local community service center. Care managers from each district visit the households to assess the living environment, and if support is deemed necessary, the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ promptly provides the service.
Since its launch in November 2018, now in its sixth year of operation, the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ has served a total of 2,375 households with 3,910 services provided up to last year, and this year alone, it has resolved 164 living inconveniences for 115 households.
With increasing demand for home repair services and the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’ becoming an essential service for vulnerable households, Seongdong-gu plans to continue actively operating the mobile unit to alleviate residents’ daily inconveniences.
Mayor Jung Won-oh stated, "I hope that through the ‘Chakchak Seongdong Living Civil Complaint Mobile Unit’s’ community-based home repair services, residents can enjoy a safe and cool summer free from pests." He added, "We will continue to strive to improve the living environment for vulnerable groups so that all residents can live in a more comfortable and safe environment."
