Artificial intelligence (AI) leader Nvidia achieved a surprise quarterly performance that exceeded market expectations. It also decided to split its stock 10-for-1. Nvidia's stock price is soaring nearly 4% in after-hours trading.
On the 22nd (local time), Nvidia announced its fiscal 2025 first-quarter (February to April) results after market close, reporting revenue of $26 billion, up 262% year-over-year, and adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $6.12, up 461% during the same period.
This surpassed market forecasts. Earlier, market research firm LSEG had projected Nvidia’s revenue at $24.65 billion and adjusted EPS at $5.59.
Revenue surged as Google, Microsoft (MS), Meta, Amazon, OpenAI, and others purchased billions of dollars worth of Nvidia graphics processing units (GPUs) needed for AI development.
Nvidia’s data center segment revenue reached $22.6 billion, a 427% increase year-over-year. Gaming segment revenue rose 18% to $2.64 billion.
Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, said, "The next industrial revolution has begun," adding, "Companies and nations are partnering with Nvidia to transform the existing $1 trillion data center industry into accelerated computing and build a new type of data center, AI factories, producing new products called AI." He continued, "AI will bring significant productivity improvements to nearly every industry," emphasizing, "It will help companies increase cost and energy efficiency while expanding revenue opportunities."
Nvidia also decided to split its common stock 10-for-1. Investors holding Nvidia shares by the 6th of next month will receive an additional nine shares per share after market close on the 7th.
Additionally, Nvidia will increase its quarterly cash dividend to $0.10 per share, up from $0.04 in the previous quarter. Based on the post-split shares, the dividend will be $0.01 per share and will be paid on the 28th of next month.
Meanwhile, as of 4:55 p.m., Nvidia’s stock price is up 3.86% in after-hours trading.
