On the 22nd, Kang Kyung-yoon, an SBSi reporter who first reported the Jung Joon-young group chat incident in 2019, appeared on SBS LoveFM's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show.' Reporter Kang shared behind-the-scenes stories, including how he came to appear in the recently trending BBC documentary 'Burning Sun: The Stories of Women Who Exposed the Secret Chatrooms of K-pop Stars' and his coverage experiences.
During the broadcast, when asked about 'how the perpetrators have been doing after their release,' Reporter Kang revealed the latest status of Seungri and Jung Joon-young.
Regarding Seungri, he said, "He is not active as a singer but is making great efforts to continue his business." Reporter Kang added, "Even before his detention, Seungri himself wanted to focus more on business than singing, aiming for a global business. Although that direction was terribly wrong and even criminal, I heard he is trying to continue that business."
Previously, Seungri was tried on nine charges including violation of the Act on the Punishment of Acts of Arranging Sexual Traffic and violation of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (illegal filming using cameras), sentenced to one year and six months, and was released in February last year after serving his sentence.
Since then, Seungri has occasionally been reported to be living abroad, such as holding a lavish birthday party with acquaintances in Thailand in December last year and attending an event at a lounge bar in Cambodia in January. Recently, a video surfaced showing him singing Big Bang’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’ at the birthday party of a real estate development company chairman in Malaysia.
Reporter Kang also mentioned that Jung Joon-young "is preparing to immigrate overseas." Jung Joon-young was sentenced to five years in prison for charges including group sexual assault and distribution of illegal videos and was released on March 19 after completing his sentence. Since then, no significant updates about him have been reported.
Meanwhile, the BBC News Korea documentary 'Burning Sun: The Stories of Women Who Exposed the Secret Chatrooms of K-pop Stars,' released by BBC News Korea, attracted great attention as it detailed the previously little-known atrocities of the Burning Sun Gate figures and the investigative process tracking them.
