"Coordination for Korea-Japan Summit Meeting in Seoul on the 26th... Possibility of Discussing Line Yahoo" (Comprehensive)

President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are reportedly coordinating for a summit meeting in Seoul on the 26th, Kyodo News reported on the 22nd.

According to diplomatic sources cited by Kyodo News, the Korea-Japan summit is expected to be held in Seoul on the occasion of the Korea-China-Japan summit scheduled for the 26th to 27th. The three-nation summit is anticipated to be attended by President Yoon, Prime Minister Kishida, and Chinese Premier Li Chang.

If the meeting materializes, the Korea-Japan leaders will meet again about six months after their last meeting during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in San Francisco, USA, in November last year. The two leaders are expected to reaffirm trilateral cooperation among South Korea, the United States, and Japan to counter North Korea's nuclear and missile development.

There is also a possibility of discussions regarding the Line Yahoo incident. Kyodo News predicted, "On the Korean side, public opinion is opposing the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' demand to Line Yahoo, the operator of the messenger app Line, to reconsider its capital relationship with Korea's Naver in connection with the personal information leak of Line users, so this issue may be raised as an agenda item at the summit."

Prime Minister Kishida plans to once again request the South Korean government to cooperate in resolving the issue of Japanese abductees.
