Dongdaemun-gu Wins Overall Championship at the 2024 Seoul Citizens Sports Festival (Exclusive)

Co-hosted by Seoul City and Seoul Sports Council, 20 Events Competed at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) won the overall championship with the highest combined score in hosted events among 25 autonomous districts at the ‘2024 Seoul Citizens Sports Festival’ jointly hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Sports Council on the 18th and 19th.

Gwanak-gu and Mapo-gu took 2nd place, while Seodaemun-gu, Jungnang-gu, and Eunpyeong-gu shared 3rd place.

The ‘2024 Seoul Citizens Sports Festival’ was held at 11 venues including Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium and various event-specific stadiums, with about 10,000 Seoul citizens participating in 10 club sports and 10 citizen participation events during the event period.

Dongdaemun-gu, with a total of 315 participants including 174 athletes, cheering squads, and support staff, achieved 1st place in Hip-hop Dance among club sports, and 3rd place in Aerobics, Table Tennis, and Badminton. In citizen participation events, they secured 1st place in Basketball Shooting and 2nd place in Sports Stacking and Volleyball, demonstrating outstanding performances across various events and surpassing last year’s 3rd place to claim the sole 1st place.

Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “I applaud the efforts and achievements of all participants, including Kwan-oh Yoo, President of the Dongdaemun-gu Sports Council,” adding, “This great achievement is the result of the united strength of our residents.”

Kwan-oh Yoo, President of the Sports Council, also responded, “I am grateful for the great interest and support from the district office.”

The Dongdaemun-gu Sports Council operates visiting community sports service classes for all ages from infants to the elderly, and actively promotes sports development in Dongdaemun-gu by supporting various competitions and hosting sports events for 26 affiliated associations under the council.
