Mini and Sliced Watermelons Launched Targeting Single-Person Households
Lotte Mart and Lotte Super are introducing watermelons selected using artificial intelligence (AI) to welcome the summer season.
Lotte Mart and Super, operated by Lotte Shopping, announced on the 23rd that they will conduct the 'Freshness Renewed Watermelon Campaign' at all stores. This campaign aims to reduce the points customers need to check when choosing watermelons by utilizing AI.

According to Lotte Mart, watermelons have ranked first in fruit sales during the three summer months (June to August) every year. Although demand for watermelons is high, many customers often randomly tap watermelons with beautiful colors because they do not know which ones are sweet and tasty. To address this, Lotte Mart is introducing 'AI Watermelons' selected for quality factors such as sweetness using AI.
To mark the start of the campaign, Lotte Mart and Super will post 'AI Watermelon' posters on store exteriors from the 23rd to announce the beginning of the watermelon season, while also broadcasting outdoor subway advertisements featuring watermelon images and videos. After the 6th of next month, an event will be held offering up to 50,000 points to customers who purchase watermelons using 'Lotte Mart GO,' Lotte Mart's offline exclusive app.
Additionally, from the 23rd to the 29th, Lotte Mart and Super will offer a 1,000 KRW discount on all watermelon products at all stores for one week. At Lotte Mart, the discount will be available to L.POINT members, and at Lotte Super, discounts will be provided when paying with promotional cards (Lotte, Shinhan, Samsung).
In line with the trend of increasing single- and two-person households, the range of small-sized fruits will also be expanded. Starting from the 30th, Lotte Mart plans to sell 10 items including mini watermelons and sliced watermelons. The number of small-sized watermelon items has doubled compared to last year. According to Lotte Mart, sales of mini and sliced watermelons from June to August last year increased by about 5% compared to the previous year.
Besides AI watermelons, Lotte Mart offers various fruits selected by AI at reasonable prices. Until the 29th, 'AI-Selected Seongju Chamoe (3-6 pieces, bag)' and 'AI-Selected Musk Melon (whole)'?both checked for sweetness and size by AI?will be sold for 9,990 KRW and 12,990 KRW respectively.
Shin Hansol, product planner (MD) of the fruit team at Lotte Mart and Super, said, "This year, we have prepared AI-selected watermelons as a key product so that customers can enjoy sweet watermelons no matter which one they choose. We have confidently prepared watermelons through improved selection processes compared to last year, so we hope customers visit Lotte Mart and Super for a fail-proof watermelon purchase."
