[Breaking] Government to Deploy 120 New Military Medical Officers on the 23rd

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 22nd that it will newly deploy 120 military doctors starting from the 23rd.

Park Min-su, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said at the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters briefing on the doctors' collective action in the afternoon, "(The newly deployed military doctors) will be intensively assigned to major tertiary hospitals responsible for surgeries of severe diseases, and will be deployed reflecting the demand of regional emergency medical centers with difficulties in emergency room operations and public medical institutions."

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, currently, a total of 427 personnel, including 257 public health doctors and 170 military doctors, are deployed: 131 in 22 public medical institutions, 284 in 42 private medical institutions, and 12 in central emergency medical centers.

Vice Minister Park said, "We plan to assign 66 personnel to major tertiary hospitals in the metropolitan area responsible for surgeries of severe and emergency patients, 30 to regional emergency medical centers focusing on treatment of severe and emergency patients, and 24 to major regional general hospitals such as training institutions and public medical institutions."

The dispatch period is four weeks, from tomorrow (the 23rd) to June 16.

When the fourth dispatch personnel start working, a total of 547 personnel will be working on site.

Vice Minister Park said, "During the 'severe' stage of the health and medical disaster crisis, we plan to maintain the number of dispatched personnel by extending the working period or replacing them with new personnel."
