Hailstorms struck parts of Colorado in the United States, causing severe damage including the death of livestock.

On the 21st (local time), CBS News and others reported that hail began falling in eastern Colorado from the afternoon of the 20th, damaging many homes and buildings. Paula Pariset, who lives in Yuma County, Colorado, said, "The sky looked strange." She added, "My husband and I were sitting in the basement holding our pets," and "We heard the sound of glass breaking upstairs." Mike Hams, owner of a lumber store, said, "Last night, hailstorms swept away all the windows on the west side of the town," and "It was a really tough time."

Deaths of livestock also occurred due to hail and strong winds. On a highway in Yuma County, at least one horse was reported dead. In addition, severe damage was reported to homes and vehicles.

Videos capturing the situation at the time were also posted one after another on social networking services (SNS). The footage showed hail the size of baseballs falling along with strong winds. As a result, car rear windows were shattered into pieces. Overseas netizens reacted with comments such as, "An enormous amount of hail fell. Baseball-sized hail caused widespread damage," "Cars were shattered due to an intense 'hailstorm'," and "A baseball-sized hailstorm that scared people." Another netizen mentioned that it was difficult to open the front door due to large hail chunks piled up in front of it.

The U.S. National Weather Service reported that large hail up to 4 inches (10.16 cm) in diameter fell near Yuma County and the nearby town of Akron on that day. The most commonly seen hail size was about the size of eggs and golf balls.

Previously, in June last year, in Denver, Colorado, a powerful tornado accompanied by hail larger than baseballs caused 4 deaths and injured over 100 people.
