Kim Seong-hwan, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, revealed on the 22nd that he voted for Woo Won-sik in the party's internal election for the Speaker of the National Assembly candidate.
On the same day, Kim posted on Facebook an article titled "The reason I voted for candidate Woo Won-sik," stating, "Woo, whom I have observed for 30 years, has never once harmed the interests of the people and the party for personal gain."
In the party's internal election conducted by secret ballot, Woo was elected as the Speaker candidate, and amid demands for 'purging' mainly from hardline party members, Kim is the first to publicly disclose his support for Woo.

Kim said, "I fully agree with the intention that party members' rights should be further expanded," but added, "I believe that the choice made in this Speaker election process is fundamentally not different from the demands of the majority of party members."
Kim, classified as pro-Myeong (pro-Lee Jae-myung faction), and Woo are both alumni of Yonsei University’s activist group.
Earlier, on the 16th, when Woo Won-sik won the Democratic Party's internal election for the Speaker candidate for the 22nd National Assembly's first half, some hardline Democratic Party supporters began calling Democratic Party lawmakers presumed to have voted for Woo "subak" (watermelon) and demanded a purge.
