260,000 Housing Units in Bundang, Sanbon, Jungdong, Ilsan, and Pyeongchon: 26,000 Units to be 'Reconstructed First'

The reconstruction volume for the five first-generation new towns in Gyeonggi Province?Bundang, Ilsan, Pyeongchon, Jungdong, and Sanbon?has been confirmed at 26,000 housing units. This accounts for 10% of the total 260,000 units across the five areas.

On the 22nd, Gyeonggi Province announced at the ‘Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) - Gyeonggi Province - First-generation New Towns - LH Leaders Meeting’ held at the Government Seoul Office that 26,000 units have been selected as the ‘pilot districts’ to lead the reconstruction projects among apartment complexes in the first-generation new towns.

The volume by region is ▲Bundang 8,000 units ▲Ilsan 6,000 units ▲Pyeongchon, Jungdong, and Sanbon 4,000 units each. The specific complexes to be prioritized will be finally decided in November through local government competitions held in June.

The ‘pilot districts’ are areas that will be the first to proceed with reconstruction projects under the ‘Special Act on the Maintenance and Support of Aging Planned Cities,’ enacted in December last year.

Regarding the schedule for specific district designation, the competition guidelines will be finalized and announced on June 25, proposals for pilot district selection will be received in September, evaluations and consultations with MOLIT will take place in October, and final decisions will be made in November.

The selection of pilot districts will be determined by local governments based on criteria reflecting regional conditions for each first-generation new town, such as resident consent rates, urgency of residential environment improvement, and ripple effects of redevelopment projects.

Additionally, Gyeonggi Province plans to provide various supports for aging planned cities, including pilot districts, such as accurate information provision through redevelopment consulting and redevelopment schools, strengthening resident communication via citizen cooperation committees and resident briefings, and financial support for special redevelopment plan formulation.

Furthermore, rapid support will be provided for overall plans for aging planned cities, including approval of basic plans such as building density plans and infrastructure installation, as well as consultations on special redevelopment plans covering population and housing accommodation plans, traffic, and landscape plans.

Earlier, in February, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited an apartment complex in Bundang, Seongnam, expressing strong commitment to support the maintenance of aging planned cities by stating, "We will do our best to designate as many pilot districts as possible, ideally two or more."
