Construction of Dementia-Specialized Municipal Nursing Home in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon... 96 Beds, Opening in 2026

A public elderly care facility dedicated to the care and treatment of dementia patients will be built in Incheon.

On the 21st, Incheon City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the municipal elderly care center in Galhyeon-dong, Gyeyang-gu. The city plans to complete the care center by the first half of 2026, investing 22.3 billion KRW in a facility with one basement floor, five above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 3,000㎡.

The care center will be designed as a dementia-specialized unit combining private rooms and common living rooms, equipped with 96 dementia-specialized beds.

The city expects that once the dementia-specialized care center is operational, integrated services will be possible in conjunction with the dementia relief centers and day care centers currently operated by each district, as well as the municipal elderly dementia care hospital. The city also plans to begin construction of a comprehensive dementia-specialized care facility in Seo-gu in the second half of this year.

An official from Incheon City stated, "With the increase in the elderly population aged 65 and over, the prevalence of dementia, a representative geriatric disease, is also expected to rise," adding, "We will continue to expand the infrastructure for dementia patient care and do our best to improve the quality of services."
