Geumcheon-gu (District Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will carry out the ‘Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Project,’ which operates various programs such as education, performances, and exhibitions using cultural heritage within the region, until December.
Hoamsanseong Fortress (National Historic Site No. 343), Hoapsa Temple (founded in 1393), and the Hoapsa Stone Seated Buddha Statue (Seoul Cultural Heritage Material No. 8) were selected for the National Heritage Agency’s public project and are being promoted under the supervision of the local village project specialist organization, the ‘Education Sharing Cooperative.’
The ‘Local Cultural Heritage Utilization Project’ consists of the ‘Vivid National Heritage’ project targeting ‘Hoamsanseong Fortress’ and the ‘Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage’ project targeting ‘Hoapsa Temple’ and the ‘Hoapsa Stone Seated Buddha Statue (Yaksa Buddha).’
In the ‘Vivid National Heritage’ utilization project, programs are conducted under the theme ‘Cultural Heritage Inside_People Protecting Hoamsanseong Fortress,’ providing residents with opportunities to restore and preserve Hoamsanseong Fortress themselves. The ongoing precise excavation process of the second well site and building remains at Hoamsanseong Fortress is being shared with residents to reestablish the district’s history.
Main programs include ‘Hoamsanseong School_Vivid Hoamsanseong School/Children’s Archaeology Class,’ which informs about the excavation results and allows participants to experience the excavation site, and ‘Hoamsanseong Happy Walking_Protecting Cultural Heritage and the Environment!’
Additionally, this fall, the ‘Hoamsanseong Vivid Festival,’ featuring puppet shows and photo exhibitions, is planned to be held.
The ‘Traditional Mountain Temple Cultural Heritage Utilization Project’ operates cultural heritage interpretation, lectures, experiential, and performance programs using Hoapsa Temple and the Hoapsa Stone Seated Buddha Statue (Yaksa Buddha).
Main programs include ‘Hoapsa Cultural Sympathy_Mountain Temple Puppet Show/Mountain Temple Concert,’ ‘Tea Talk with the Head Monk_Mountain Temple Humanities,’ and ‘Meet the Healing Buddha_The Path to the Mountain Temple.’
Through mountain temple path walks, guided tours of Hoapsa Temple, and making Yaksa Buddha medicine boxes (Buddha who cures all illnesses of sentient beings) using recycled materials, participants can enjoy cultural heritage in the mountains and have time to heal their body and mind. They can also learn about the history of Hoapsa Temple, a protective temple registered as a traditional temple (built based on the protective pagoda theory by monk Doseon in the late Silla and early Goryeo periods), and the value of the cultural heritage stone seated Buddha statue (Yaksa Buddha).
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I hope this will be a time to enjoy the district’s cultural heritage and heal the mind while walking along Hoapsa Temple and Hoamsanseong Fortress,” adding, “We will continue to promote the Hoamsanseong Fortress restoration and historical cultural road construction project and the region-tailored cultural heritage utilization project to create Geumcheon as a historical and cultural tourism city.”
