Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will hold the largest-ever pet experience cultural event, the ‘2024 Ypetmily Festival,’ on June 8 around the Mokdong Rodeo Fashion Street area.

The festival name ‘Ypetmily’ combines Yangcheon’s ‘Y’, ‘Pet’ for companion animals, and ‘Family’, meaning cherished members like family. The district aims to make this specialized festival, which highlights the dog-shaped geographical feature, a foothold for spreading a mature and happy pet culture.

To increase accessibility for citizens and invigorate the local economy, the district selected the Mokdong Station nearby Rodeo Fashion Street, a place with heavy foot traffic, as the venue. A 300-meter section of the two-lane road will be turned into a ‘car-free street’ to allow dogs and their owners to run and play freely.

The festival site is divided into ▲Stage Zone ▲Play Zone ▲Experience Zone ▲Rest Zone ▲Flea Market Zone, where pet households and family visitors can enjoy various viewing and participatory programs as well as diverse experience booths.

First, the central stage, the ‘Stage Zone,’ will have a large screen broadcasting the festival live in real time. Colorful color balls will hang from the stage ceiling, and the official district character, the dog ‘Haewoori,’ sculptures and a ‘Photo Zone exclusively for dogs’ will be set up throughout the venue to create a lively festival atmosphere. About 70 soft bean bag sofas will be arranged in front of the stage to provide a resting area. Along with this, programs such as the ‘Pet Golden Bell,’ a quiz competition related to pets, a ‘Joint Fashion Show’ where dogs and owners can showcase their fashion sense, a ‘Ceremony for Adopted Stray Dog Families’ to promote stray dog adoption culture, ‘Busking with Pets,’ and a ‘Lucky Draw for Pet Supplies’ are planned.

In particular, the ‘Pet Talk Concert’ will feature the celebrity couple Kangnam and Lee Sang-hwa, who are adoptive families of stray dogs, sharing various episodes from their experiences as pet households and interacting with the audience on stage.

In the ‘Play Zone,’ a playground for pets, there will be a special performance by Korea’s top frisbee (disc throwing) team, followed by demonstration performances by five Korean national teams participating in the 2024 Asia Agility Championship. Additionally, an ‘Agility (obstacle running)’ experience zone and a ‘Dog Playground’ will be installed to promote physical activity for dogs, and a ‘Pet Talent Show: Stay and Come’ contest will be held to showcase dogs’ training levels.

The ‘Experience Zone,’ where visitors can experience various pet cultures, will include ▲1:1 Dog MBTI Personality Test ▲Pet Tarot ▲Four-cut Photo Booth ▲Dog Pawprint Making ▲Pet Health Consultation with the Yangcheon-gu Veterinary Association ▲Caricature ▲Making Dog ID Tags and Haewoori Keyrings ▲Pet Grooming Art Experience Booths.

The ‘Rest Zone’ will have parasols and tables for visitors to relax and enjoy the festival. In particular, a ‘Food Truck’ offering sandwiches, finger foods, beverages, and other light snacks will also operate.

In the ‘Flea Market Zone,’ 20 pet-related businesses will participate in a marketplace selling related supplies and handmade snacks. Additionally, on the festival day, special discount events will be held in cooperation with the Mokdong Rodeo Merchants Association and store owners in the area.

Applications are currently being accepted until May 31 for pet families wishing to participate in the pet talent show (Stay Champion Contest) and the pet fashion show. Inquiries can be made to the district office’s Culture and Sports Division.

Meanwhile, anticipating a large crowd, the district plans to fully close nearby roads on the event day and deploy about 100 safety management personnel on site for traffic control and smooth event operation.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We hope the ‘2024 Ypetmily Festival’ will widely spread a mature pet culture with companion animals and serve as a catalyst to invigorate the local economy,” adding, “We will make every effort to prepare so that everyone participating in the festival can create happy memories with their pets.”
