Professor Kim Hyun-wook of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy has been appointed as the 12th director of the Sejong Institute, a national policy research foundation.


The Sejong Institute announced on the 21st that it held an extraordinary board meeting on the 20th and appointed Professor Kim Hyun-wook as the successor to Director Lee Sang-hyun, whose term expires at the end of this month. The director's term is three years, with the possibility of one renewal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also expected to give final approval to the agenda as early as the same day.


Professor Kim graduated from Yonsei University with a degree in Political Science and Diplomacy and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in Political Science from Brown University in the United States. He is currently serving as a professor at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy and head of the North America and Europe Research Department. His research focuses on the Korea-US alliance, North Korean issues, Northeast Asian security, and European security. He has also served as a policy advisory member for the National Security Office and as a member of the Ministry of Unification's Future Planning Committee for Unification.
