The Democratic Party of Korea will re-push prosecutorial reform, including the establishment of the "Serious Crime Investigation Office (Jungsucheong)," in the 22nd National Assembly.
Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, said at the "Democratic Party Prosecutorial Reform TF 1st Meeting" held at the National Assembly on the 21st, "Two years after the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, South Korea has reached a point where it is being evaluated as a country undergoing dictatorship," adding, "We will definitely complete prosecutorial reform in the 22nd National Assembly together with everyone who agrees with prosecutorial reform."
The prosecutorial reform promoted by the Democratic Party is likely to involve a complete separation of the prosecution's investigative and prosecutorial powers. The plan is to leave only the prosecutorial power to the prosecution and transfer the investigative power to Jungsucheong.
Kim Yong-min, head of the Democratic Party's Prosecutorial Reform TF, said, "The plan is to establish Jungsucheong within six months after forming a special committee and launch it within one year, but this agreement has not been properly kept. We will do our best in the 22nd National Assembly."

Kim criticized the prosecution under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration for ignoring reform bills. He said, "The prosecution under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration has become an institution protecting the president and Kim Geon-hee," and added, "We will deeply discuss the unfinished prosecutorial reform according to the prosecutorial reform plan agreed upon by both ruling and opposition parties and push for party consensus on the resulting reform bills."
He also left open the possibility of cooperation with the Jo Guk Innovation Party for prosecutorial reform. After the meeting, Kim told reporters, "I believe the Jo Guk Innovation Party and the Democratic Party will each go through the process of proposing bills, and then discuss them together in the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee to undergo integrated coordination."
