Participation from Artists, Students, Citizens, and Foreigners
Includes 'Garden Permanent Exhibition' Plus Interpretation and Experience Programs
More than one million visitors have come to the site within five days of the opening of the '2024 Seoul International Garden Expo.' This is the shortest period with the highest attendance since the first Seoul Garden Expo was held in 2015.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 21st, 1.02 million people visited the '2024 Seoul International Garden Expo,' which opened on the 16th at Ttukseom Hangang Park, by the 20th. Especially, 500,000 visitors came over the two days of the first weekend, the 18th and 19th, establishing it as a popular outing spot in May.
Held on the largest site ever (10,460㎡), this expo showcases 76 gardens and garden culture contents created by domestic and international garden artists, students, citizens, foreigners, companies, and institutions. This year, in addition to invited gardens and artist gardens, ▲ student, citizen, and corporate companion gardens ▲ institution participation gardens ▲ global gardens were created not only by experts but also by citizens experiencing gardening for the first time, drawing attention. At the opening, many local governments, including autonomous districts in Seoul as well as Sejong, Daegu, Daejeon, Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, and Gyeongbuk, visited the expo site to benchmark garden trends and event operations.
Seoul City will operate the main event until the 22nd and hold a 'Permanent Exhibition Special Exhibition' for four days until the 26th. To allow more citizens to participate, some programs including the garden and the Garden Center will continue to operate even after the main event. The permanent exhibition of 61 gardens will continue until early October. Various garden programs will be held regularly until the closing, and they will be linked with other events to provide abundant sights and entertainment.
There will be guided tours and garden education programs to help understand gardens, various garden experiences, and performances such as 'Guseokguseok Live.' Linked with the 'Slow and Easy Hangang 3-Event Festival' to be held in early June, 'Hangang Pulmung Time' will also be conducted.
Seoul City held this year's 'Seoul International Garden Expo' at Ttukseom Hangang Park and is considering holding it next year in the southwestern area such as Boramae Park and Dorimcheon. The plan is to hold garden expos in various areas of the city and open a high-quality 'Garden City Seoul.' Lee Su-yeon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Green City and Leisure Bureau, said, "It seems that Seoul City's sincere intention to increase the happiness index of Seoul citizens through gardens has been realized," adding, "I hope that during the remaining permanent exhibition period, visitors will experience the amazing and beautiful changes of gardens that change colors and appearances with the seasons and gain happiness from gardens."
