The Festival of Steelworkers 'Gwangyang Steelworks G-League' Opens

Soccer, Volleyball, StarCraft, etc.

Ongoing for about 5 months until October 1

POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Head Lee Dong-ryeol) has launched the '2024 Gwangyang Steelworks G-League,' a sports competition between departments involving about 7,000 employees, starting from the 20th, aiming to revitalize the organization and strengthen bonds among employees.

Following the positive impact of the inaugural '2023 Gwangyang Steelworks G-League' held last year, which was credited with energizing the organizational atmosphere, Gwangyang Steelworks decided to hold the G-League again this year to foster camaraderie and boost morale among employees.

In particular, this year’s G-League diversified the sports categories to encourage maximum participation from employees. Alongside last year’s events such as e-sports, soccer, and table tennis, new categories including jokgu and volleyball were added. For the e-sports competition, 'StarCraft,' a game popular among employees of all ages and genders, was selected.

The tournament will open sequentially starting with jokgu matches and conclude with soccer on October 1, spanning five months. The games will be held in a department-based tournament format, and to further boost enthusiasm, the department with the highest combined score across all events will be awarded a food truck.

To align with the tournament’s purpose of fostering unity and communication among all employees, mini-games will be held during breaks for employees attending as spectators. Department members who win each mini-game will receive a 'Communication Activity Fund of 1 million KRW.'

The mini-game categories were selected from ideas proposed directly by employees and will include tug-of-war, volleyball bowling, beer pong (a game where ping pong balls are thrown into beer cups placed on both sides of a table), group jump rope, and bottle stacking.

Lee Dong-ryeol, Head of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, “Following last year, the G-League has once again begun a time for about 7,000 employees to unite,” adding, “I hope all employees will demonstrate the spirit of harmony and participate in the games joyfully and safely.”

Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively leading the spread of a culture of communication and harmony through various events such as the Communication Concert hosted by the Steelworks Head, Reverse Mentoring, and glamping events with employees’ families.
