Cumulative Purchase Volume of 17,000 Tons Over 42 Years Until Last Year

Nongshim will continue its partnership with fishermen in Wando, which has been maintained for 43 years since the launch of Neoguri this year as well.

Nongshim announced on the 21st that it plans to participate in the kelp auction held in Geumildo, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do from early June and purchase about 450 tons of fresh kelp to be used for Neoguri production.

In particular, this year, with the expected increase in harvest due to improved kelp crop conditions, Nongshim plans to increase the purchase volume compared to last year to practice mutual growth with the Wando community.

The relationship between Nongshim and Wando began in 1982 with the launch of Neoguri. At that time, Nongshim decided to include large pieces of raw Wando kelp to realize the differentiated seafood udon flavor. Since then, Nongshim has purchased the highest quality Wando kelp every year for 43 years up to this year. The cumulative purchase volume until last year reached about 17,000 tons, which is the highest level in the domestic food industry.

The relationship between Nongshim and Wando-gun, which started with kelp purchases, continues in various ways. In May, Nongshim participated in the Jangbogo Seafood Festival in Wando and operated a Neoguri booth to promote Wando seafood and revitalize tourism. Also, at the end of April, kelp-producing fishermen in Geumildo, Wando, awarded Nongshim a plaque of appreciation, saying, "Nongshim has contributed to income increase and regional economic revitalization by promoting the excellence of Wando kelp." In 2022, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Neoguri's launch, Wando-gun displayed congratulatory messages on the outer wall of the Wando-gun Council building.

Han Chang-young, Executive Director of Wando Geumil Fisheries Cooperative, said, "Nongshim's steady kelp purchases empower Wando fishermen to focus on producing high-quality kelp and greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy."

A Nongshim official said, "We will continue to contribute to the local community through purchasing Wando kelp and produce the highest quality products to make consumers' lives delicious."
