Seeking Solutions to Social Issues from a Youth Perspective
Daegu Catholic University held the "Startup Club Youth Startup Hackathon Competition" for two days and one night starting from the 18th.
This competition was conducted as part of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education Research Institute's Regional Startup Experience Center project. It was organized to address various social issues from the perspective of youth, targeting startup club students from middle and high schools in Gyeongbuk Province in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Daegu Catholic University has been hosting the "Startup Club Youth Startup Hackathon" for one night and two days since the 18th and is taking a group photo.
Approximately 70 students from nine schools participated in the competition, including Gyeongbuk Natural Science High School, Gyeongju High School, Seondeok Girls' High School, Iseo High School, Cheongdo High School, Gyeongsan Girls' Middle School, Munseong Middle School, Sadong Middle School, and Yulgok Middle School.
On the first day of the competition, after a special lecture on design thinking by Kim Kyungdeok, CEO of Lead Local, students generated various business ideas to solve local issues with the help of expert mentors.
On the second day, students finalized their product ideas, created business models, and participated in evaluations through IR presentations.
The students presented and received awards for ideas such as "an air purification system that combines a solar power generator and an air purifier to clean methane gas emitted from various local livestock industries" and "a chewy snack made using dried persimmons from Sangju."
Kim Yongpil, Dean of the Justino Liberal Arts College at Daegu Catholic University, said, "I was impressed by how the teams implemented creative ideas through brainstorming and collaboration," and added, "I hope this serves as an opportunity for students to develop creativity and entrepreneurial spirit through various experiential startup education programs."
