Park Jungyeol, Former KOSME Auditor Accused of Election Law Violation, Hospitalized for Cerebral Hemorrhage While in Custody

Park Jungyeol, former standing auditor of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, who was detained and indicted on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, collapsed while in custody and was transferred to a hospital.


According to legal sources on the 20th, Park collapsed around noon on the 19th at Jinju Prison in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, showing symptoms of cerebral hemorrhage.


It is reported that after being transferred to a local hospital in Jinju, Park was moved again to a large hospital in Busan, where he is currently receiving treatment.

On the same day, the court received a report of Park's emergency situation and decided to suspend the execution of his detention.


Suspension of detention is a system that temporarily halts the execution of detention when there are serious reasons such as illness for the detainee.


Previously, Park was detained and indicted on charges of handing over 20 million won to an acquaintance in order to secure the nomination as a preliminary candidate for the People Power Party in Sacheon, Namhae, and Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, during the 22nd National Assembly election.
