Gwangju Dong-gu Conducts Survey on Vacant Houses Left Unattended for Over One Year

The survey targets 955 houses presumed to be vacant due to no energy usage in the past year. The survey will be conducted in three stages: preliminary investigation, on-site investigation, and rating assessment, carried out by the Korea Real Estate Board, a specialized agency.

Based on the results of this survey, Dong-gu plans to categorize vacant houses within the district by type, establish a customized vacant house maintenance plan considering safety conditions, and build a continuous management system.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "We will establish a foundation to systematically organize and efficiently manage vacant houses that cause safety and social issues for residents," adding, "Through this, we will do our best to improve the residential environment for our citizens."

Meanwhile, the vacant house survey is a mandatory task to be conducted every five years since April 2021 under the enforcement of the "Special Act on the Maintenance of Vacant Houses and Small-scale Housing." Previously, Dong-gu established a vacant house maintenance plan through a survey in 2019, and as that plan ends in 2025, the district has initiated the vacant house survey as basic data for establishing the 2026 vacant house maintenance plan.
