Reflecting the Characteristics of Five East Coast Cities and Counties (Gyeongju, Pohang, Yeongdeok, Ulleung, Uljin)
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST), with Acting President Hee Seung Lee, held a kick-off briefing session for the establishment of the “Gyeongbuk Province Marine Bioindustry Master Plan” at the Eastern Office of Gyeongbuk Provincial Government on the 17th.
Approximately 30 participants attended the kick-off briefing, including Kim Byung Gon, Director of the East Coast Strategic Industry Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province, advisory committee members in the marine bioindustry sector, and officials from five regions along the East Coast of Gyeongbuk (Gyeongju, Pohang, Yeongdeok, Ulleung, and Uljin).
This project was launched based on the “Marine Bioindustry New Growth Strategy (2022-2027),” a national agenda established jointly by the government and relevant ministries, to identify competitive marine bioindustries in Gyeongbuk Province and to develop strategies for integrated growth among cities and counties within the province.
Through this kick-off briefing, KIOST plans to utilize its infrastructure and research capabilities to discover and nurture regionally specialized projects, building on ongoing marine bio-related initiatives in Gyeongbuk’s cities and counties.
Hee Seung Lee, Acting President of KIOST, stated, “We are honored that KIOST is conducting the first comprehensive planning research for the development of the marine bioindustry in Gyeongbuk Province,” and added, “We hope that this kick-off briefing will serve as an opportunity to discover new industries that will drive systematic and comprehensive growth and development in Gyeongbuk’s marine bioindustry.”
