LG Innotek Establishes 'Expert System' for Continuous Growth of Employees

Purpose of Developing Experts by Business Field
The Youngest Expert Was Born in 1986

LG Innotek announced on the 20th that it has established an 'Expert System' for its employees and selected 22 individuals with core competencies as experts.

The Expert System is designed to motivate employees for growth and nurture them as core job experts to ensure the company's sustainable growth and strengthen future business capabilities. This system was introduced after an internal survey on career development showed that 70% of respondents preferred to grow as experts rather than as executives or business managers.

LG Innotek has previously allowed employees to grow from responsibility roles to research and expert committee members through the existing Career Track. However, since the period required to be appointed as a research or expert committee member is long and the selection scale is small, a new 'Expert' stage has been added between responsibility and research/expert committee roles.

Additionally, the expert career track, which was mainly operated for research and development (R&D) and technical positions, has been expanded to general office roles. This means that general office positions such as sales, marketing, product planning, quality, finance, and legal can now also grow through the expert track.

Since introducing the system last year, LG Innotek has selected 14 experts in that year and 8 this year. The youngest expert is Min-ae Ok, born in 1986. Ms. Ok holds a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has achieved results in developing magnetic materials using the Materials Intelligence (MI) technique.

Experts are selected through recommendations by each business division. A notable feature is that recommendations can be made not only by team leaders and organizational heads but also by colleagues working together.

Employees selected as experts receive various benefits. They are awarded an official certification plaque and receive a monthly expert qualification allowance. They are given priority opportunities to participate in external education programs and gain chances to grow into top experts in their fields through professional career coaching. They also become eligible candidates for research and expert committee positions.

Kim Heung-sik, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO) of LG Innotek, said, "Even if employees do not become organizational leaders, having a system and environment that supports growth as an expert in a specific field can stimulate employees' 'growth aspirations' and help them set clear career goals." He added, "We will spare no support to help our employees grow into top experts."
