Mayor Park Hyungjoon: "Strengthened Programs and Global Partnerships, Asia's Largest Interactive Platform"
Busan Metropolitan City will host the 18th Busan Contents Market (BCM2024) under the theme "Global Content Hub Busan" from May 22 to 24 at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1.
The event is sponsored by the city and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and organized by the Busan Contents Market Organizing Committee.
This year, the event will bring together over 2,000 buyers and sellers from 700 companies across 45 countries, with leaders of the global content industry gathering in Busan.
Since its launch in 2007, the event has grown every year, expanding its influence from Asia to the global stage.
It serves as a global networking platform bringing together a variety of genres such as broadcasting, animation, webtoons, games, and creators, and acts as a gateway for promoting K-content worldwide.
This year's event will feature a diverse range of programs, including: ▲ exchange agreements with Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East ▲ business matching and international joint investment agreements with investor advisory groups ▲ a variety of topics ranging from broadcasting to webtoon intellectual property (IP) and artificial intelligence (AI) ▲ and the "Busan Contents Market (BCM) Internet Video Service (OTT) Drama Awards (BODA)."
The "Busan Contents Market (BCM) Market" will pave the way for Busan to become a "Global Content Hub" by pioneering new overseas content markets through agreements with organizations in Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
In addition to an agreement with Vanja Hovan, the organizer of Serbia's Novi Sad Film Festival, discussions will be held with African countries such as South Africa and Nigeria to explore ways for K-content to enter these markets.
The "Busan Contents Market (BCM) Investment Promotion" will offer investment opportunities in various content fields, including webtoons and the metaverse, through business matching with over 30 venture capital firms.
International co-production invitations and investment agreement ceremonies will also be held to stimulate the content industry.
The "Busan Contents Market (BCM) Large-scale Conference" will focus on the global success stories of K-dramas.
Additionally, Jaedam Media, the production company behind the webtoon-based drama "Weak Hero," will share its recent success after completing filming for Netflix Season 2, and a preview will be held for a webtoon co-created by cartoonist Lee Hyunse and AI, generating great anticipation.
Finally, the special event "Busan Contents Market (BCM) Internet Video Service (OTT) Drama Awards (BODA)" will take place on the 23rd in Hall 3 of BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1, where outstanding works in each field will be selected and awarded.
Mayor Park Hyungjun stated, "'Busan Contents Market (BCM)' has established itself as the leading content market in Korea with its 18-year history," and added, "This year, by strengthening existing programs and establishing new global cooperation systems, we will make every effort to transform into Asia's largest interactive platform and realize 'Global Content Hub Busan.'"
