The Spectacular Transformation of the Newly Renovated ‘Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain’

Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain has been newly renovated and will showcase its first fountain show on May 24.

The music fountain is located in front of the Nowon Mathematics Culture Center (19-gil 28, Hangeulbiseok-ro), between Bulamgyo and Saessakgyo bridges over Danghyeoncheon. Reflecting the results of an online survey conducted last year among residents who viewed the music fountain, both the facilities and content have been significantly improved this year.

First, the existing water screen nozzles were replaced, and two lasers were added. Bridge fountains were installed on Bulamgyo and Saessakgyo, located on either side of the music fountain. This is the first nationwide case of operating bridge fountains, which create richer and more beautiful water streams for the music fountain.

The content has also been transformed. In collaboration with music experts, this year’s selection includes about 20 songs ranging from children’s songs like ‘Barabam’ and ‘Tinyping Song’, trot songs such as ‘Amor Fati’ and ‘Jjin-iya’, K-POP hits like ‘God of Music’, Drama, and three overseas pop songs: ‘Viva La Vida’, ‘Handclap’, and ‘Let it Go’. To keep the experience fresh throughout the week, different sets of seven songs are presented each day.

For visual beauty, the video display has been expanded from the previous 4:3 ratio to a 16:9 ratio, with videos and lasers synchronized to the music projected onto the water screen. The addition of laser effects also enables more spectacular fountain performances.

The music fountain operates once daily for 20 minutes at sunset until October 31. From May to August, it starts at 8:30 PM; in September, at 8 PM; and in October, at 7 PM. It is closed every Monday and Tuesday and may be suspended due to weather conditions such as rain or strong winds.

On May 10, a resident who happened to watch the test operation of the music fountain said, “The Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain has become larger and more splendid than before,” adding, “From the moment the music starts until it ends, every moment naturally evokes admiration.”

The district office plans to ensure strict safety measures during the music fountain’s operation. Two safety personnel will be stationed at all times during operating hours to eliminate hazards in advance and prepare for emergencies. Monitoring through CCTV will be strengthened, and equipment will be inspected regularly.

Meanwhile, the Danghyeoncheon ground fountain is also preparing to operate. Located in front of Seongseo University, the ground fountain will run for four months from June 1 to September 30, except on Mondays. It will operate five times daily for 30 minutes each at every hour from 12 PM to 4 PM, and once at night for 30 minutes at 8 PM. At night, it will provide a visual spectacle with various colorful lights.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Since the opening of the Danghyeoncheon Music Fountain was delayed, it will be newly operated with richer attractions and packed content,” adding, “I hope families create many everyday memories together with the music fountain encountered on their neighborhood walks.”
