Special Fabric with Built-in Carbon Filter Adsorbs and Decomposes Vehicle Exhaust Pollutants
Installed in Fine Dust Intensive Management Areas: Doksan Station, Doosan Elementary School, and Beoman-ro Area
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that fine dust adsorption filters have been installed on pedestrian fences in fine dust intensive management areas such as Doksan Station, Doosan Elementary School, and the Beoman-ro area.
The fine dust adsorption filters were donated and installed by MD Hotel Doksan Branch (CEO Yoon Myung-seop), which contributed 52 filters to reduce fine dust.
The adsorption filters, made in the form of banners, contain carbon filters, and the special fabric adsorbs and decomposes air pollutants generated from vehicle exhaust, thereby reducing fine dust in the air.
According to a survey by the Korea Testing & Research Institute, the adsorption filter absorbs 436g of ultrafine dust per square meter annually, which is equivalent to planting about 12 trees. The 52 fine dust adsorption filters installed by the district cover a total area of 35.77㎡, resulting in an annual ultrafine dust reduction effect of 15,596g and an effect equivalent to planting about 429 trees.
Additionally, since it does not use electricity or fossil energy, it has the advantage of having minimal environmental impact.
The areas where the adsorption filters were installed are usually designated as fine dust intensive management zones due to heavy traffic and the concentration of small-scale air pollutant emission businesses, and they are receiving special management to reduce fine dust.
The district plans to install 42 additional fine dust adsorption filters in fine dust intensive management zones within the district by the end of this year.
The district is making multifaceted efforts to protect residents from damage caused by fine dust.
From 2020 to 2022, 66 fine dust reduction devices were installed in 14 facilities such as daycare centers, senior centers, and hospitals in fine dust intensive management zones.
From last year to this year, 214 'window-attached ventilation systems' were installed in 154 locations, including 87 daycare centers and 67 senior facilities (senior centers, senior care facilities).
Also, this year, the district was selected as a pilot institution for the Public Procurement Service's innovative product, the 'Indoor Air Quality Integrated Management Product,' and installed clean air spraying devices in 17 locations including daycare centers in the area.
Yoon Myung-seop, CEO of MD Hotel, said, "By installing special fabric filters along the roads near Doksan Station and Doosan Elementary School, we can protect the health of local residents," and added, "We plan to further expand air quality improvement activities for local residents together with Geumcheon-gu and accelerate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management."
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope the adsorption filters installed along the roads will play a significant role in protecting residents' health by reducing fine dust such as vehicle exhaust," and expressed gratitude to MD Hotel for participating in Geumcheon-gu's air quality improvement activities.
