30s Public Official Found in Critical Condition... "Recently Complained of Civil Petition Stress"

A public official in her 30s affiliated with Namyangju City Hall in Gyeonggi Province was found in a critical condition at her home.

According to the police and fire authorities on the 17th, a report was received around 10 p.m. on the 15th in Namyangju stating that "an acquaintance seems to be in a dangerous condition."

The responding police and fire personnel found a woman in her 30s, identified as Ms. A, at a residence in Namyangju. Although conscious, Ms. A was in a critical state with very high blood pressure and difficulty speaking, so 119 emergency responders transported her to the hospital.

Substances presumed to have been used in a poisoning attempt were found at the scene.

Ms. A, a public official affiliated with Namyangju City Hall, is currently receiving hospital treatment in critical condition.

It has been reported that Ms. A had recently been expressing stress related to civil complaint duties, and Namyangju City is investigating her usual work environment and related circumstances.

Meanwhile, incidents of public officials dying after suffering from malicious civil complaints have been occurring recently. According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, cases where civil petitioners threatened the safety of public officials and civil service offices through illegal acts such as verbal abuse and assault increased by about 3,500, from 38,054 cases in 2019 to 41,559 cases in 2022.
