Hapcheon-gun "Demolition Order"
Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, removed idolizing signs installed by someone at the birthplace of the late former President Jeon Du-hwan ahead of the 44th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement on the 18th.
Hapcheon-gun announced on the 17th that after receiving an inquiry about two signs with idolizing phrases at the birthplace of former President Jeon Du-hwan in Naecheon Village, Yulgok-myeon, they removed the signs.

According to the county management department's inspection, someone planted a tree by the birthplace's wall and backyard and installed a support next to it, hanging a sign approximately 30 cm tall and 14 cm wide. The sign contained an idolizing phrase that read, "Let us respect President Jeon Du-hwan, the heroic leader who overcame the crisis of the Republic of Korea."
Judging by the phrase below stating "Tree planted on March 15, 2023," it is believed the sign had been installed for over a year, but Hapcheon-gun was confirmed to have been unaware of this fact.
The county removed both signs on the 16th.
A county official stated, "It appears that an unidentified visitor planted the tree and installed these signs," adding, "We will thoroughly supervise and manage to prevent such incidents from happening in the future."
