Yongin City announced on the 17th that a knowledge industry center accommodating manufacturing and information technology (IT) sectors will be constructed in the 'Yongin Sanghyeon 4 District Urban Development Zone' at 414-7, Sanghyeon-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin.
Sanghyeon 4 District is an urban development project area of 114,410㎡ where an advanced industry and business complex is being created on land returned from a military base. To the south of the district lies the Gwanggyo New Town research complex. The project has been promoted by the private sector since June 2020 and received designation as a district unit plan area and implementation plan approval in January last year.
The knowledge industry center will be located on the A1 block of the industrial research facility site within the district. It will be built on a site area of 33,555㎡ with a total floor area of 191,272㎡, spanning from three basement floors to 17 above-ground floors.
The project operator, JB Gwanggyo PFV, plans to invest 500 billion KRW, start construction in August next year, and complete the project by December 2028. Upon completion, it will be the 23rd knowledge industry center established in the Yongin area.
The city expects that about 1,000 companies, including manufacturing, bio, and IT sectors, will move into this knowledge industry center, creating employment for more than 6,000 people. In particular, Sanghyeon 4 District is highly accessible as it is adjacent to the Gwanggyo Sanghyeon IC on the Yongin-Seoul Expressway and close to Sanghyeon Station on the Shinbundang Line, which the industry evaluates as excellent accessibility.
A Yongin City official said, "The knowledge industry center is expected to be an opportunity to attract excellent advanced companies and create new jobs," adding, "We will create a business-friendly city so that Yongin can develop as a central city leading future advanced industries."
