The Cultural Heritage Administration is opening approximately 480,000 pieces of original digital data and content related to national heritage for free. To commemorate the transition of the national heritage system, the 'National Heritage Digital Service' will be launched from the 17th.

It is a public sector private cloud platform that provides intelligent information services. For the first time among government agencies, it offers large-scale digital data in gigabyte units. Anyone can freely access and download the data.

A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "With simple authentication via social networking services (SNS) and the application of responsive web design (webpages that automatically optimize screen size according to the type of display), users can access the service from various environments such as computers, mobile phones, and tablet computers."

The data and content are broadly divided into three categories. The first is the national heritage 3D precision data. This is the result of the original record database (DB) construction project promoted by the Cultural Heritage Administration to prepare against damage and loss of national heritage. It consists of three-dimensional (3D) data precisely recording national heritage, along with drawings, photos, reports, and videos.

A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration stated, "By applying laser scanning technology, the original data has a precision level of millimeters (mm). It is expected to be widely used not only for national heritage restoration and preservation management but also in 3D printing and the digital content industry." Laser scanning is an advanced device that uses near-infrared lasers to measure physical characteristics such as the shape of objects.

The second category is national heritage 3D assets, which are expected to have high utilization in digital content industries such as games, movies, and entertainment. Various themes have been produced, including 'Silla Wang-gyeong,' which digitally recreates the historical and cultural environment of the 1,000-year-old capital of Silla; 'Royal Culture,' which contains royal accessories and palace architectural styles from the Joseon Dynasty; and 'Joseon Era Daily Life Culture,' composed of houses and accessories. These assets can be found not only on the National Heritage Digital Service but also on global platforms such as 'Unreal Marketplace,' 'Unity Asset Store,' and 'Sketchfab.'

The third category is themed content. It mainly consists of high-resolution videos and virtual reality (VR) content created using World Heritage, natural heritage, and intangible heritage. A representative from the Cultural Heritage Administration said, "We will expand services with national heritage digital data and content that have high industrial demand to proactively respond to related needs."
