Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 16th that it will operate the "Our Neighborhood Park Gym," an educational program on the proper use of exercise equipment in parks, in collaboration with the Seo-gu Sports Council until November.
Seo-gu will send lifestyle sports instructors affiliated with the Seo-gu Sports Council directly to four parks within the district, including Pungam-dong, Sangmu 1-dong, and Hwajeong-dong, to teach residents the safe and proper use of exercise equipment and provide physical activity programs such as stretching, warm-ups, and strength exercises.
The park gym sessions will be held from 10 a.m. for 1 hour and 30 minutes at ▲Pungam Lifestyle Sports Park on Tuesdays ▲Sangmu 2-3 Neighborhood Park on Wednesdays ▲Yeomju Neighborhood Park on Thursdays ▲Shinam Neighborhood Park on Fridays. After a pilot operation this month, the program will officially start next month.
Residents who wish to participate can visit the parks at the designated times without prior registration.
Lee Hyungsook, Director of the Sports and Tourism Division, said, "We hope that education on the proper use of exercise equipment, which is the most easily accessible in our neighborhood parks, will help improve residents' physical fitness," adding, "We will continue to strive to expand the base of everyday sports for residents' health."
Meanwhile, Seo-gu operates various sports classes for residents' diverse sports activities, including fencing classes with the Seo-gu Office fencing team, volleyball classes with AI Peppers, and aerobics classes.
