On the 16th, a post titled "Air conditioner cleaning companies are almost scammers" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, who requested cleaning services because his wife had just given birth and could not clean the unit himself, said, "The cleaning was scheduled for 5 p.m. when my wife and child were at home. I found it strange that I received a message saying the cleaning was finished within 20 to 30 minutes, but since the company had many reviews and seemed professional, I thought they must have done a good job."
However, the company only removed the dust visible to the naked eye and did not clean the back of the air conditioner. Mr. A explained, "There was a lot of dust inside the lower part of the air conditioner, but they just covered it up and finished. My wife asked, 'Isn't that part supposed to be cleaned?' Upon hearing this, the company said, 'We don't usually clean that part, but we'll do it for you,' and just wiped it with a wet tissue."
Mr. A continued, "When I got home and took a quick look at the air conditioner, the front-facing fan was clean, and even the dust filter had been cleaned," but added, "When I removed the dust filter to check, I was shocked. They hadn’t touched the back at all and just left." Photos posted by Mr. A show that dust on the back of the air conditioner, including the fan and connected wires, was not properly removed. Dust was stuck in every crevice, and some areas even showed signs of mold.
Mr. A immediately called the company to complain, but they responded, "According to the manual, the back of the dust filter is not supposed to be touched," and proceeded with a refund. Mr. A said, "I decided to clean it myself by disassembling the air conditioner and found out that they hadn’t even cleaned the front properly." He added, "When I sent photos of the front to the technician, they got angry and said, 'I thought the company already issued a refund, so why are you complaining to me?'"
Mr. A stated, "The company I hired has over 1,000 reviews and is well-known," and warned, "These days, air conditioner cleaning companies must be in peak season, but it seems many just do a half-hearted job. I hope no one else suffers like I did."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "They really only cleaned the visible parts," "I think I could clean better," "They must have really hated cleaning even though they were paid," "Even with a refund, I’d still feel bad," and "If it were me, I would have taken the dust filter to the company."
