Yongsan-gu Establishes Flood Response Facilities at Sinyongsan, Ichon, and Galwol Underpasses

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) has completed the installation of flood response facilities for underpasses. This is part of safety measures to minimize damage caused by localized heavy rainfall due to climate change during the summer season.

Among the four underpasses managed by the district?Sinyongsan (Hangangno 3-ga 2-14), Ichon (Ichon-ro 343-20), Galwol (Galwol-dong 44-25), and Hannam 2-dong (Hannam-dong 685-22)?flood response facilities were installed at three locations except Hannam 2-dong, which has natural drainage.

The flood response facilities consist of ▲temporary electronic signboards for entry blocking and ▲elevation of distribution panels.

The temporary electronic signboards for entry blocking were installed at vehicle entry points. In case of underpass flooding, they display the message "No Entry to Underpass," broadcast announcements, and flash warning lights to prevent vehicle entry. The installation was urgently funded by the city and completed in August last year.

The distribution panels elevated are located at Sinyongsan underpass, where the distribution panel is positioned above ground in a forced drainage underpass, as well as at Ichon and Galwol underpasses.

The elevation of distribution panels is an electrical work aimed at improving the inability to control and operate drainage pumps caused by the loss of function of the underground electrical room during underpass flooding. This ensures the drainage pumps operate normally even when the underpass is flooded, securing drainage capacity and providing a passable environment within the underpass.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, "We are thoroughly preparing in advance before the full-scale flood and typhoon season begins. We will do our utmost to create a safe city, Yongsan, so that residents can feel secure and focus on their daily lives."

From March, the district carried out dredging work on 17,874 rainwater inlets in the area for two months. In April, about 300 public officials and residents affiliated with the district participated in preliminary prevention education to strengthen disaster response capabilities and establish a disaster management system for flood and typhoon preparedness. On the 8th, a comprehensive flood and typhoon preparedness drill was completed at the Wonhyo-ro rainwater pumping station.
