Putin's State Visit to China on 16-17th... "Exchange of Views on International Issues" (Update)

On the 7th, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, who began his fifth term in office, will make a state visit to China on the 16th and 17th at the invitation of Xi Jinping, President of China.


Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular press conference on the 14th, "At the invitation of President Xi, President Putin will make his first state visit to China since starting his new term," adding, "During this visit, President Xi and President Putin will exchange views on bilateral relations marking the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic ties, cooperation in various fields, and international and regional issues of common concern."

The Kremlin stated regarding President Putin’s visit to China, "We will discuss in detail all issues concerning the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation," and "We will identify key areas to further develop practical cooperation between Russia and China." It also said, "We will exchange detailed views on the most urgent international and regional issues," and that the two leaders will issue a joint statement after their talks.


During the visit, President Putin is scheduled to visit two cities, Beijing and Harbin. The Kremlin added that President Putin will also meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang to discuss cooperation in trade, economy, and humanitarian fields between the two countries.


President Putin, who succeeded in winning a fifth term in the presidential election last March, began his fifth term with the inauguration ceremony on the 7th. President Xi visited Russia on a state visit as his first overseas trip after securing a third term in March.
