Gangjin-gun, Upgrade to 'Excellent' Grade in Evaluation of Local Leaders' Pledge Fulfillment

Gangjinwon County Governor "Prioritizing Promises to Residents... Efforts for County Development"

Clear Achievements in Communication with Residents and Fulfillment of Campaign Promises

Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, was rated A grade (Excellent) in the 2024 National Basic Local Government Heads' Pledge Implementation and Information Disclosure Evaluation, hosted by the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters, on the 10th.

According to the county on the 14th, the Korea Manifesto Practice Headquarters conducted a two-stage evaluation from February to March targeting 226 basic local governments nationwide. The first stage involved evaluating publicly available homepage data, and the second stage verified manifesto materials. The evaluation assessed five areas: pledge implementation level, achievement of 2023 goals, communication with residents, web communication, and consistency with the original pledges, and rated them across five grades.

Although Gangjin-gun had not achieved significant results in previous pledge implementation evaluations, as of December last year, it implemented 59% of its total pledges, significantly higher than the national average pledge implementation rate of 34.36%. The county improved accessibility to the county head’s pledge management across the Gangjin-gun website to enhance communication with residents, and regularly checked and transparently disclosed the status of pledge implementation to residents. These factors contributed to the recent grade improvement.

Additionally, to facilitate communication with residents, Gangjin-gun launched the ‘Gangjin-gun Resident Jury,’ composed of 30 residents, which reviewed and adjusted pledge projects twice, in December last year and April this year. The county has been continuously striving to reflect residents’ voices in county administration, which played a significant role in receiving high scores in the communication with residents category.

Gangjinwon, the county head, said, “The excellent grade was achieved as a result of the continuous efforts of all public officials in Gangjin-gun to faithfully implement the pledges of the 8th elected term.” He added, “As the second half of the 8th term is about to begin, we will continue to prioritize promises made to residents and do our best for the development of Gangjin-gun.”
