U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to directly announce new tariffs on Chinese-made products.
Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Advisor, stated at a briefing held at the White House on the 13th (local time) in response to related questions, "The specific details will be announced at the appropriate time, in short order."
Advisor Sullivan said, "It is no secret that the President and the entire administration have been concerned about China's unfair practices that harm American workers and businesses, issues of overproduction, and a series of non-market and market-distorting practices introduced by China in strategic sectors," adding, "The President has consistently expressed his stance to 'resist and respond,' and that is the framework through which he approaches this issue."
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, "You will hear directly from the President," and added, "We have clearly stated that we will protect workers and businesses, and we will continue to do so."
According to reports from U.S. media including Bloomberg News, President Biden plans to announce new tariffs targeting China as early as the 14th on key strategic industries such as electric vehicles, batteries, and solar energy.
