Must Successfully Hold the Party Convention to Meet Public Expectations

On the 13th, the People Power Party held its first Emergency Response Committee meeting and unanimously agreed to successfully hold the party convention through reform. They also announced that they would begin serious discussions on the timing and election method of the convention.

At the meeting held at the central party office, Emergency Response Committee Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo said, "The public hopes that our party will quickly undergo a thorough reform," adding, "Our party must urgently normalize, successfully hold the party convention, and elect a new party leader who meets the expectations of party members and the public to show the people."

Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho said, "Although this Emergency Response Committee is a temporary leadership, the weight of the tasks entrusted to us is not light," and added, "Each of our decisions will serve as a gauge showing our determination for reform."

The party leadership, seemingly conscious of the pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) label, emphasized their intention to demonstrate reform through the party convention.

Emergency Response Committee member Eom Tae-young said, "I believe this Emergency Response Committee is the first step toward rebirth, reflecting on the public's reprimand given in the general election and regaining trust," adding, "There seems to be much interest regarding the convention rules and timing. The most important thing is to listen to various opinions." He further stated, "We will carefully consider and deliberate to derive reasonable measures by listening to diverse opinions."

Emergency Response Committee member Kim Yong-tae also said, "I think it is very important to show that the party is open to the public at the party convention where the next party leader will be elected," adding, "The People Power Party will do its best to become a party open to the public by combining the party's passion and openness."

Jeon Ju-hye, an Emergency Response Committee member who mentioned that she was representing the out-of-parliament party branch chairpersons, said, "The report card given by the public in this general election is a painful reprimand and an absolute command like a last lifeline to the People Power Party," adding, "Although there are various opinions, regarding the primary election rules, the out-of-parliament party branch chairpersons have already conveyed their opinions to Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo. I believe that the primary election rules should be promptly revised to meet the public's expectations, and procedures to promptly elect the party leader should follow accordingly."
