Students from the Fire Safety Management Department at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology have launched a fire safety education program for the elderly.
Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) announced on the 13th that the Fire Safety Management Department collaborated with Busanjin-gu Office, the Busanjin-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, and the Busanjin-gu Volunteer Center to conduct fire safety inspections and education at senior centers in Busanjin-gu on the 9th.
This volunteer activity, carried out as part of the disaster zero project "Creating Safe Senior Centers," involved four students from the Fire Safety Management Department visiting four senior centers in Busanjin-gu. They conducted fire safety inspections covering electrical and gas safety, installation of fire alarms and extinguishers, as well as safety education on evacuation procedures, extinguisher usage, and fire safety checks.
In addition to the fire safety education, the students spent brief moments chatting with the grandmothers and grandfathers at the senior centers.
Professor Byun Tae-young, advisor of the Fire Safety Management Department, said, "I hope this helps create a safe environment free from fire hazards for our elderly neighbors," adding, "I also hope that this positive influence spreads within the department, fostering an atmosphere where many students participate in volunteer activities."
Starting with this volunteer activity, about 20 students are scheduled to visit 18 senior centers in May to carry out fire safety volunteer work, with plans to continue these activities from June onward.
Students from Dong-Eui University are conducting fire safety education for elderly residents at a nearby senior center.
