CU Launches 'Haeun Affordable Parcel Service'... "Send at Half Price"

Inland-Island Bidirectional Convenience Store Parcel Delivery... Industry First
Service at Over 650 Stores on 14 Islands Nationwide
Up to 4,800 KRW Cheaper Than Regular Parcel Delivery

CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, announced on the 13th that it will launch the 'Maritime Altteul Delivery' service, expanding its inter-store parcel delivery service, Altteul Delivery, to 14 island regions nationwide.

This expansion extends the Altteul Delivery service, which was previously available only within inland or Jeju areas, to island regions. CU is the first in the industry to operate parcel delivery between convenience store locations in both inland and island areas.

With the launch of the Maritime Altteul Delivery service, over 650 CU stores located on 14 islands, including Jeju Island, will be able to send and receive Altteul Delivery parcels to and from inland areas. The service covers regions such as Ulleungdo, Yeonpyeongdo, Baengnyeongdo, and Saryangdo. The usage method remains the same as before, allowing customers to send parcels via the 'CUPOST' application (app), website, POSTBOX parcel machines, and CU's own commerce app 'Pocket CU.'

CU's Maritime Altteul Delivery service can be used by adding only a maritime shipping fee of 1,700 KRW to the existing CU Altteul Delivery cost. The standard CU Altteul Delivery starts at 1,800 KRW, which is about half the price of regular parcel delivery. Sending Altteul Delivery parcels from inland to island areas through CU Maritime Altteul Delivery can save up to 4,800 KRW compared to regular domestic parcel services. To celebrate the launch, CU is running a special promotion until the end of June, waiving the maritime surcharge and offering an additional 200 KRW discount.

CU Altteul Delivery has been growing annually due to the activation of secondhand trading and the increase in online shopping. According to CU, the year-over-year growth rates of Altteul Delivery usage were ▲421.9% in 2021 ▲89.7% in 2022 ▲90.3% in 2023. This year (January to April) also showed a growth rate of 28.8%.

The proportion of Altteul Delivery usage among all parcel deliveries has also increased significantly, from only 1.8% in its first year of service in 2020 to 8.2% in 2021, 15.8% in 2022, and 25.3% in 2023. One out of every four CU parcel customers used Altteul Delivery. In response, CU has strengthened related benefits, including launching the industry's first 'parcel-only mobile gift card' last year, which allows free use of all parcel services such as Altteul Delivery and domestic parcel delivery.

Shin Sang-yong, head of the Service Platform Team at BGF Retail, said, "By expanding the scope of CU Altteul Delivery to island regions, more customers can use parcel services at reasonable prices. CU will continue to actively utilize its nationwide largest network and logistics infrastructure to solidify its position as a lifestyle-oriented platform."
